3rd Grade Pioneers Fall to Jenks Silver

The 3rd Grade Pioneers took on Jenks Silver this past Saturday at Hamilton Field in Stillwater to close out the regular season. The Pioneers fought hard but came up just short with a final score of 13-27. The Pioneers will be able to play in the post season tournament because of their winning record. The exact times and dates of these games are yet to be determined but the tournament begins on November 1st and ends November 12th.

David Robinson, Cole Martin, Donnell Wagner, Cameron Dominick, and Tevin Williams execute the Pioneer offense. The Pioneers wasted no time after they received the opening kickoff. Tevin Williams would score from 45 yards out on the fourth play of the drive. Donnell Wagner would keep and add the point after, bringing the score to 7-0. On the ensuing kickoff the Pioneers would recover the onside kick at the 45 yard line. Stephen Brown would come up with a big catch to move the Pioneers to the 20 but they were forced to turn the ball over on downs to end the 1st quarter.

Jenks would control the ball for the majority of the second quarter. Brendan Presley and Shawn Tipton made key stops to slow the Trojans but Jenks would score with about three minutes left in the half to even the score at 7-7. The Pioneers would threaten just before intermission but Tevin Williams would be pushed out at the one yard line. The time would run out leaving the score knotted at 7 all at the half.

Jenks would strike quickly to begin the second half, scoring on their next three possessions after recovering two onside kicks. This stretched the score to 7-27 halfway through the 3rd quarter. The defense would stiffen after a big hit from Wagner bringing on great team tackling to end the quarter. Jenks would be forced to turn the ball over on downs and the Pioneers acted quickly. Wagner would take the first play of the series 65 yards for the score. The point after was no good bringing the tally to 13-27. Jenks would keep the ball for the remainder of the game but the defense would keep them out of the end zone as David Robinson and Cameron Kirkes would make key stops in the backfield to end the game.

The final score of this last regular season game was Stillwater 13 Jenks 27. Best of Luck to the Pioneers in the post season tournament. GO PIONEERS!!!!

Pioneer 4th Graders Wrap UIp regular Season with Victory

The 4th Grade Pioneers finished their regular season Saturday with a dramatic, come-from-behind 13-12 win over Haskell at Hamilton Field in Stillwater.

The Pioneers defense played bend-but-don’t-break all day against two of the best runners they faced this season. The Pioneers' Qwontrel Walker took the opening kickoff at the Stillwater 40 and returned it all the way for a touchdown. On the point-after attempt, Luke Morgan connected with Chris Jones for what would later prove the difference between two very skilled teams.

The Pioneer offense runs a play against Haskell. The Stillwater defense went to work with a pure team effort. Haskell ran their first four plays up the middle, testing linemen Kionte Polk, Damon Cunningham, and Sean Preston. After moving the ball initially, Preston and K. Polk broke through, along with defensive end Brody Vaughn to record a big loss. Haskell then bounced outside and was stopped by Brayden Brunker and Jean Pixler. They tried again and Daniel Flowers and Chris Jones were there to meet them. Then Haskell fumbled and K. Polk recovered for the Pioneers.

The offense faced one of the quickest defenses seen this year and struggled for each yard behind blockers Andrew Tselee, Jake Freeny, Corbin Nelson and Trevor Benham. Walker ran for 12 yards down the left sideline and Morgan ran a sneak up the middle for 8 yards, but Haskell’s defense held strong and took over on downs. Cunningham recorded a tackle for a loss but Haskell converted on 3rd and 12. Flowers, Isiah Polk and Jones stopped a challenge to the left of the line and then Preston recorded another tackle for a loss. Haskell rebounded with a touchdown run over the left side to make the score 7-6.

The Pioneers could not convert on the following possession and Haskell took over on downs at the Pioneer 38 with time running out in the 1st half. On their irst play, Haskell avoided tackles by almost the entire Pioneer defense in a dramatic run for a touchdown to make the half time acore 12-7 in favor of the Haymakers.

Starting the 3rd quarter, Chris Jones recovered a Pioneer onside kick. The Pioneers switched to a swinging gate offense with help from Robby Kuhlenschmidt, Regan Ventris and Taylor Essary, but a Pioneer fumble gave the ball back to Haskell. Jones stopped stopped a would-be touchdown run by Haskell and on the following play Jaden Salazar fell on a fumble to give the Pioneers another chance from their own 20 yard line. The Pioneers could not convert and gave Haskell the ball on their own 20 yard line with 4:10 remaining in regulation. Pixler and Brunker came up big to stop another would-be scoring run on the left and on 1st and Goal from the Pioneer 7, Haskell fumbled again and Preston was there to recover.

With time running down Morgan threw a hook-and-ladder pass combo to Salazar who handed off to Walker for a long touchdown run to give the lead back to Stillwater, 13-12. Haskell would get three plays in the final 38 seconds but the Pioneer bend-but-don’t-break defense held on for the win.

The Pioneers finish the regular season with a 7-2 record and will play in the Indian Nations Post-Season Tournament beginning Thursday, November 4 against Broken Arrow Silver in Coweta at 7:00 PM.
