Mighty Might Blue Loses to Broken Arrow

The Stillwater Mighty Might Blue Pioneers hosted the 2nd Grade Broken Arrow Gold Tigers and were outplayed by an older team.

Stillwater was able to convert first downs, showing much improvement, but could not reach the endzone against the Tigers. On the first Pioneer possession, Tevin Williams pushed for 4 yards straight ahead on a handoff from Cole Martin and the next play Martin gained 3 yards on a QB sneak. A Broken Arrow offsides penalty gave Stillwater a first down at the Tiger 48 yard line. Another sneak by Williams gained an additional four yards and the Pioneers advanced the ball for their second first down at the Tiger 37. However, Cameron Domnick wasn't able to gain yardage on the next play and though Williams ground out a couple of yards on the following down, Stillwater was not able to convert on fourth down and the ball was turned over to Broken Arrow at the end of the first quarter.

Daesan Simpkins (#1) and Weston Nyaga (#8) hold the line. The second quarter was tough for Stillwater as Broken Arrow scored two times. Williams was able to obtain a couple more first downs but Domnick and Martin were not able to push the drive to the endzone.

In the second half, the Pioneers defense stepped up as Daesan Simpkins ran down a Tiger ball carrier at the Stillwater 21 yard line, saving a touchdown. Williams made another tackle for no gain, but on the next play the Tigers ran the ball in for a touchdown.

In the 4th quarter, Blake Crowson made a tackle in the backfield for a seven yard loss, then Joel Stettnisch and Briggs Borlands added tackles of their own.

This was the final game of the season and the team and parents would like to thank Coaches Chris Martin, Jeff Stokes, and Jeremy Cooper for their time and commitment.

4th Graders Finish with Win

The Stillwater 4th Grade Pioneers ended the regular season with a 25-6 victory over Broken Arrow Black at Pioneer Stadium.

Stillwater received the opening kickoff and, behind the running of Caleb Case, moved the ball into Broken Arrow territory. A 30 yard touchdown run by Nicholas Camacho was called back due to a holding penalty, and the Pioneers ended up turning over the ball on downs at the Broken Arrow 30 yard line. The Tigers immediatley ripped off a 70 yard touchdown run to go up 6-0 but the point after attempt was no good on a pass deflection by Cash Baker.

The Stillwater offense again took over at its own 48 yard line and behind the running of Ryker Hughes and Case again drove the ball deep into Broken Arrow territory. Gunner Womack broke several tackles on a tough 7 yard run to bring up a key 4th and 1 situation. Hughes rushed for two yards to keep the drive alive, then hit Womack for a 12 yard pass. Two plays later Hughes punched it into the endzone for a Pioneer touchdown. Hughes converted the point after attempt to put Stillwater up 7-6 midway through the 2nd quarter.

Pioneer kicker Andrew Mitchell executed a squib kick which bounced off several players before Stillwater's Zac Evans came up with the football at the Pioneer 49 yard line. On a 2nd and 9, quarterback Camacho threw a swing pass to Hughes, who dashed 50 yards for another touchdown. The point after attempt was no good but the Pioneers held a 13-6 lead.

Broken Arrow received the ensuing kickoff and began their series at the 50 yard line. On first down, the Tiger ball carrier was hit by Desmond Jones and Christian Burhans and fumbled with Baker recovering for Stillwater. Behind the offensive line of Romelle Petties, Jacob M. Jones, Hunter Staten, Winston Watkins and Jackson Meyer, the offense again drove down the field with Camacho scampering into the end zone on a 37 yard run for a 19-6 lead with 34 seconds left in the half. Mitchell again hit a perfect squib kick which Pioneer Guner Womack recovered, but time ran out before the Pioneers could add to their lead.

Broken Arrow started the second half on offense and was moving the ball until a holding penalty forced them into a 4th and 15. The Tigers completed a pass but Kyler Dotter brought down the receiver before he could make a first down, giving the Pioneers the ball at the Broken Arrow 48. Behind a block from wide receiver Dalton Fix, Burhans rushed for a 24 yard gain down to the Broken Arrow 23 yard line. After a loss of 5 yards, Hughes rushed 28 yards for a touchdown before the 3rd quarter ended. The point after was no good, leaving the score at 25-6.

The 4th quarter began with the Tigers returning the kickoff to the Stillwater 34 yard line, but on the first play from scrimmage a fumble recovery by Bailey Wright gave Stillwater the ball back. The Pioneers attempted to run some time off the clock by feeding the ball to running backs Mason Bratton and Case, but the Tiger defense stiffenend and took over on downs at the Pioneer 22 yard line. Broken Arrow could not reach the end zone as the defense, behind Brandon Hardesty and Wright stopped the Tiger offense. Broken Arrow had one last chance to score before the game ended but Andrew Wynn saved a touchdown by bringing the ball carrier down at the 2 yard line and the Pioneer defense, behind Watkins and Baker, kept Broken Arrow out of the end zone as the game ended.

The 4th Grade Pioneers finished the regular season with a 5-4 record and begin double elimination post season tournament play on Tuesday, November 2 with a 7:00 game at Broken Arrow against Tulsa South Black.
