(Black) knocked out of playoffs by Chris Jones (11/3/01) The Stillwater 7th Grade Golden Eagles (Black Squad) were knocked out of the INFC playoffs after losing 20-8 to the unbeaten Tulsa Union Redskins (Silver Squad) in the semi-finals on Saturday. Stillwater ending it's outstanding season with an overall record of 9-2. Stillwater's 15 seventh graders were outnumbered in players every game this season and outnumbered in size against more than half of the teams they faced. Dispite their tremendous disadvantages, they were able to win their divison and advance to the semi-finals after defeating Sand Springs (Black) 38-8 in the first round of the playoffs. Stillwater was able to hold Union to it's second lowest scoring game of the year. Union had a 14-0 halftime lead but after a Luke Murray hit Matthew McVery on a 42 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, Stillwater was back in the thick of things. Stillwater had a late third quarter drive that looked to be setting up a go-ahead score for the Golden Eagles but the drive was cut short when a pass from Tyral Kearney was intercepted and returned to midfield. Stillwater (Black) will be entering a Post-Playoff Tournament in Tulsa on November 17, in which they hope to get another shot at battling to the top. |

The Eagles offense was impressive on the day moving the ball at will, but turning it over twice inside the five yard line. They finally were able to get into the end zone for a score in the second half, which proved to be enough for the victory. The Eagles Running backs Jason Bear and Garret Nance Combined for 80 yards behind the blocking of Trey Parks and Jared Trahern. Quarterback Caleb Norton hooked up with Chase Hains on a pair of passes totaling 40 yards. This was the first year the 4th.grade squad was able to boast a winning season. |

| Stillwater (Black) clinches
playoff spot By Chris Jones (10/20/01) The 7th grade Stillwater (Black) Golden Eagles clinched a playoff spot this week after knocking off the Sand Springs (Gold) Sandites 36-28. Sand Springs took an early 6-0 lead on a one yard touchdown run during their first possession. Stillwater answered on their first offensive play however, when Tyral Kearney broke an off-tackle dive for a 74 yard touchdown run. The score gave Stillwater an 8-6 lead. The Sandites regained the lead on the next play however when they ran in their second touchdown of the game from 56 yards away. After three rushing touchdowns by Matthew McVey (63, 33, 56), Stillwater ended the first half with a 30-22 lead. The second half of the game was a much different story for both teams. Neither team managed to reach the endzone during the third quarter. Sand Springs ran in a 23 yard touchdown and had an opportunity to tie the game halfway through the final quarter of play but Patrick Henderson blocked the Sand Springs extra point attempt. Kearny scored Stillwater’s final touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Stillwater’s offensive leaders were McVey (13 carries for 203 yards, 3 touchdowns) and Kearney (13 carries for 145 yards, 2 touchdowns.) Austin Sloan lead the team defensively with 6 solo tackles and one assist. Next week Stillwater (Black) finishes their regular season at home against Union (White). |
| 4th.Grade Gold Gets
Big Win!!! By Tom Parks (10/14/01) The 4th.Grade Gold Team improved their record to 3-4 when they hosted the Jenks white team (5-1) Saturday on the Junior High School Field. The Eagles were impressive on offense at the start of the game moving the ball at will only to sputter inside the 10-yard line twice during the half. The Eagles scored late in the 2nd.Quarter off of a Garrett Nance touchdown run giving them a 6-0 lead going into the half. The Trojans answered the call on the opening drive of the second half with a touchdown of there own, It looked like they would own the momentum by keeping the ball deep inside Eagle territory most of the second half, but the Eagles defense stood tall to the challenge by not allowing the Jenks offense to move the ball at all for the rest of the day. This kept the score knotted at 6 till the final buzzer blew sending the game into over time. The Eagles won the coin toss and elected to defer. Jenks went on offense first only to be smothered by a swarming Eagles defense that refused to give up any yards resulting in a minus 5 yards total offense for the Trojans in the overtime period. The Eagles then took over on offense and netted a positive 2 yards off of a Quarterback sneak giving the Eagles a 7-6 victory over the Jenks White team. The 4th.Grade gold Eagles will be on the road playing Wagoner Bulldogs at 3:00pm next Saturday. |

The game got off to a slow start for the Golden Eagles when Jenks returned the opening kickoff to the Stillwater 11 yard line and took a quick 8-0 lead. Fortunately for Stillwater, the closest Jenks ever came to scoring again was a drive that ended at the Stillwater 32 yard line late in the third quarter. Stillwater dominated every aspect of the game and racked up a season high 364 total yards. Golden Eagle defense also played a big role in the game as they held Jenks to only 32 total yards and one first down. GAME
STATS by Chris Jones (9/24/01) The Seventh Grade Stillwater (Black) Golden Eagles (3-1) were handed their first loss this past weekend as they were knocked off by the Broken Arrow (Black) Tigers (4-0). Broken Arrow took an early 8-0 lead after scoring on their first possession of the game. Stillwater’s offense would answer one the following drive when Tyral Kearney punched in a one yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Stillwater took it’s only lead of the game near the end of the quarter when Luke Murray hit Austin Sloan down the right sideline for a 32 yard touchdown reception. Unfortunately for Stillwater, BA regained the lead on a 17 yard TD run with time running out in the first half. McVey and Patrick Henderson lead the Eagle defense with five tackles and two assist each. | 7th Grade (Black) wins
defensive battle
GAME
STATS By Chris Jones (9/17/01) The 7th grade Stillwater (Black) Golden Eagles knocked off the Jenks (Gold) Trojans this past Saturday in their division opener. Both teams, however, had trouble throughout the game moving the ball offensively and neither team was able to pick up positive passing yardage. Stillwater’s first score came on their very first offensive play. After holding Jenks to start the game, Matthew McVey broke around the corner on a toss sweep for a 44 yard score. With Tyral Kearney’s extra point kick, Stillwater lead 8-0 By definition of the I.N.F.C. Extra Point Rule, an extra point kick is worth two points and a conversion try is worth one. Stillwater’s offense remained dormant for the rest of the half and entered the third quarter without picking up a single first down. Jenks quickly tied the score up in the second half as fullback Scott Carlyle broke away from two Golden Eagle defenders for a 32 yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Stillwater answered minutes later as McVey turned a broken play into a 61 yard touchdown run. McVey also recovered the live ball on the following kickoff which set up Kearney’s one yard touchdown run putting Stillwater ahead of Jenks 20-8 in the fourth quarter. That was all it would take as Jenks’ offensive failed to reach the endzone for the rest of the game. Kearney lead the defense with eight tackles and one sack. Other defensive leaders were Patrick Henderson (7 Tackles, 1 Fumble Recovery, Luke Murray (4 Tackles, 2 Sacks), and Alex Hamm (4 Tackles). McVey accounted for the majority of Stillwater’s yards as he racked up 118 yards on 11 carries. “I was really impressed with how aggressive our guys played on defense. They were flying to the ball and not giving Jenks any room to run. This is a big improvement from our last game and hopefully we’ll be able to play with this type of intensity in next week’s matchup against Broken Arrow Black” --Coach Karey Jones-- |

Outnumbered in players, 34-16, Stillwater dominated nearly every second of the game from both sides of the ball. Luke Murray broke free a few plays later as he scored on a 31 yard run up the middle of the field. Stillwater’s defense held the Comet’s once again and Kearney ran in a 36 yard touchdown on the Golden Eagle’s next possession. Stillwater lead 33-0 entering the final quarter of the game. Stillwater’s next touchdown came when McVey took a direct snap from center Dillon Anders up the middle of the line for a 49 yards. This score put Stillwater up 39-0 with 6:01 left in the game. By the defination of the Indian Nations Football Conference Mercy Rule, if a team exceeds a lead of 35 points during the second half of a football game the score becomes frozen and the game will continue without anymore points being added to the score board. Stillwater scored one more touchdown after the Mercy Rule went into effect when Shane Murphy carried the ball into the endzone from one yard out. All in all, Stillwater out-gained the Bishop Kelly Comets 289 yards and five first downs to 69 yards and four first downs. Stillwater Black’s next game is scheduled to be played on September 8th at 4:30 P.M. as they travel to Jenks to face the Jenks (Maroon) Trojans. |

Golden Eagles Win Championship
The 7th Grade Golden Eagles, in their first year of
action, traveled to Tulsa to play in Tuttle Stadium for the Indian
Nation Football Conference Championship. Though it was a battle, the
game was nothing but a success as the Eagles pulled off the 22-16 win
over the Owasso White Rams.
Stillwater, known for their wide open offensive and extreme talent, was held to a season low 240 yards. But it doesn’t stop there, the Eagles were held to only one first down the entire game. That first down occurred on the last play of the first half as Rob Johnson scrambled right and hit Seth Aufleger 25 yards downfield. The Rams on the other hand were aided by three Eagle penalties as they moved the sticks 11 times during game. As Stillwater’s offensive struggled to get a drive started, Owasso’s offensive struggled to finish their drives. Owasso’s first drive started at their own 38 and ended at the Stillwater 14. Their second drive started at their 32 and once again ended deep in Stillwater territory at the 25.The first score of the game came on a half back pass from Stillwater in the second quarter as the Eagles faced a third and 15 from their own 21. Ryan Pittman took the pitch from quarterback Cole Sisco and fired a rifle shot into the hands of Steven Greiner who sprinted the 79 yard distance untouched. Mickey Jones’s two point kick was good and Stillwater lead 8-0. That was the only score of the half. Stillwater started the second half receiving the football. Two plays later Rob Johnson broke away down the left sideline for a 59 yard touchdown on his first carry of the game. Once again Jones tacked on the two point kick. Eagles lead 16-0. Unfortunately, Owasso answered with a 33 yard touchdown pass to make the score 16-8. Two plays later, Johnson struck back with another 59 yard scamper. However, the conversion followed was no good. The Eagle’s increased their lead to 14. Once again Owasso answered, this time with a 10 yard pass that put the Rams within six at 22-16. An interception with 2:10 left in the final quarter put the Rams in position for what looked to be the go ahead score as they took over at the Stillwater 40. However, Josh House had a different plan in mind as he came up with a big sack on third and eight nearly crushing Owasso’s hopes. Owasso’s fourth down try was unsuccessful as they lost a yard on a screen pass that never stood a chance against the Eagle defense. Three kneel downs by Sisco ran out the clock as the Eagles awaited their victory. |
