Stillwater 6th Grade
By Jerry Parsons (8/26/07)

The Golden Eagle 6th grade team opened their season with a 12-0 victory over the Sand Springs Black Sandites 12-0 on Saturday in Stillwater.

Stillwater took the opening kickoff and scored a touchdown on a fifty-five yard sweep by quarterback John Littell, who broke numerous tackles and lunged past the final Sandite into the end zone. The Eagles defense dominated action and allowed only two first downs all day. The defensive line led by Dalton Samuels and Kyleb Shinault had five quarterback sacks and stuffed the Sandite running game. Stillwater put the game away in the 4th quarter when Spencer Parsons returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown. It was his second interception of the game.

Offensively, the Eagles racked up 8 first downs, sparked by the running of Tanner Swick, King Williams, and K. J. Shaw. Defensively, Brett Budke, Michael Higgins, Sterling Watkins, and Weston Crane shut down the Sands Springs offense.

By Kevin Knight (8/26/07)

Darian Williams Took the opening kick-off back for a score that set the stage for a win over the Broken Arrow Gold. The Eagles outscored BA 41-25 after four lead changes in the first half. Offensively, Stillwater showed ability to run and pass the ball efficiently. Defensively, they shut down the opponents in the second half with strong team defense led by Corbin Schmidt who had six tackles. Special teams play was also remarkable for the Eagles with accuracy on kicking the extra point and a conversion on what appeared to be a bobbled snap on the extra point handled by Williams to Luper who then passed to Holcomb to make things look easy. Coaches for the Golden Eagle 7th graders will concentrate on pass defense and conditioning for the next two weeks to prepare for their next opponent.

The 1-0 Eagles home opener is September 8th at 5:00 pm against Broken Arrow White.

Stillwater 5th Grade
By Penny Mayberry (9/22/07)

The Fifth Grade Golden Eagles won their fourth straight game of the season, defeating previously unbeaten Glenpool by a score of 7 – 6. Defensive pressure by both teams kept the score low, but the Eagle offense found a way to seal victory with a fourth quarter scoring drive.

Stillwater started the game kicking off to the Warriors and several missed tackles allowed a long 45 yard kickoff return. Glenpool continued to move the ball to their own 5 yard line, but two different holding penalties and tackles for loss by the Eagle defense stopped the drive at the Stillwater 28 yard line. The Eagles had no luck moving the ball on their first drive due to 2 penalties of their own and pursuing pressure defense by the Warriors. Glenpool struck first as they scored on a 3-play drive that began after the Eagles gave up the ball on their own 11 yard line. The score remained at 6-0 when Joseph Smith lead a charge to stop Glenpool short of the goal line on the PAT attempt. Stillwater retaliated with a 30 yard kick off return by Brooks Zimmerman and the Eagles promptly found themselves at the Glenpool 2 yard line when Marlon McDonald caught an 18 yard pass from Trey Holcomb. Miscues and mistakes culminated with Holcomb being sacked before he could attempt a pass into the end zone, as time expired in the first half.

In the second half the Golden Eagles defense held the Warriors on 2 different series coming up with sacks and fumble recoveries. The deciding drive began early in the fourth quarter as Stillwater marched down the field, aided by Ty Smith's 12 yard run. With the ball at the Glenpool 12 yard line, fullback Cameron Mayberry found paydirt, slicing through the middle of the Warrior defense. With the score tied at 6, the Golden Eagle offensive line paved the way for Mayberry's go-ahead PAT as he dove over Glenpool defenders. The Stillwater defense held tight, stopping the Warriors on two late drives and sealing a 7-6 victory with a 4th down tackle for loss as time ran out.

Stillwater had 78 yards of offense: 60 yards on 25 runs and 18 yards on 1 pass. Mayberry had 31 yards on 6 carries; Ty Smith had 33 yards on 9 carries; McDonald had 18 yards on 1 reception; Holcomb was 1 for 5 passing for 18 yards; and Kaid Brock had 5 yards on 2 carries.

The Eagle defense made big plays all day, holding Glenpool to 60 yards on 28 carries and 0 for 8 passing. McDonald and Zimmerman each recovered a fumble while four sacks were recorded by Jace Habiger, Marlon McDonald, and Charles Citizen, Jr. (2). Brock led the way with 7.5 tackles, Mayberry had 5.5 tackles, Citizen added 4 tackles with Habiger, Zimmerman, Ty Smith, Joe Smith, and McDonald credited with 3 tackles each. Logan Anderson and DJ Peckham both had 2 tackles and Brandon Berry tacked on one.

The Fifth Grade Golden Eagles will host Berryhill next Saturday at 2:30 at SJHS field.

Tyler Holcomb Ran for one touchdown and threw a scoring pass to Will Pendleton. Garrett Guthrie tight-roped down the sideline for a 41 yard score while Darian Williams had two rushing touchdowns and an interception for a score. Kicker Matheus Barbosa made three extra points (2 points each in this scoring format).

The Eagle streak holding opponents scoreless ended, but that was the only downside to the defensive performance. Enid threw the ball on the first play of the game, and continued trying to pass throughout. Garrett McBroom and Ryan Minshall spent a lot of time in the Enid backfield recording 7 total sacks. Tyler Johnson also had a sack and three tackles. Both David Lang and Jordan Robinson contributed 4 tackles each.

The Eagles play at home again next week when Sand Springs comes to town at 5:00 pm.

Stillwater 5th Grade
By Penny Mayberry (9/29/07)

The Fifth Grade Golden Eagles improved their unblemished record to 5-0, beating the Berryhill Little Chiefs by a score of 14 - 0. The Eagles managed to score two touchdowns behind persistent blocking from the Stillwater offensive line and tough-nosed, hard running from the backfield.

The Eagle offense was plagued with miscues in the first quarter. Stillwater fumbled the opening kickoff return to give Berryhill great field position, deep in Stillwater territory but the Eagle defense stood firm to force the Little Chiefs to turn the ball over on downs. The first series of offense for Stillwater saw the two teams combine for six penalties and ate up most of the first quarter before the Eagles were unable to convert on 4th down. The team regrouped in the second quarter and took the lead when QB Trey Holcomb hit Jace Habiger on a 5 yard touchdown pass with nine seconds remaining before half time. Ty Smith scored the PAT on a nice 3 yard sweep into the end zone to give Stillwater a 7 – 0 half time lead. The Eagle offense went to work again in the fourth quarter when they put together a long drive that started on their own 30 yard line. Smith had a 38 yard run which put the Eagles on the Berryhill 30 yard line. Cameron Mayberry reeled off 16 yards on the next 2 plays while Marlon McDonald had a nice 10 yard scamper. Mayberry took the next play to the 1 foot line and Holcomb hit pay dirt one play later on a one yard quarterback keeper behind a surging Stillwater offensive line. Mayberry converted the PAT on a fullback give up the middle to finish off the score at 14 – 0. Ty Smith had 66 yards on 9 carries; Mayberry had 65 yards on 9 carries; McDonald had 10 yards on 1 carry; Kaid Brock had 13 yards on 8 carries; Habiger had 5 yards on 1 reception; Holcomb was 1 for 3 passing and had 4 yards on 2 carries. The Eagles combined for 155 yards on 30 carries and 5 yards on 1 pass. Brock also had a recovered on side kick.

The Eagles defensive pressure manhandled Berryhill’s offense the entire game. The Little Chiefs were held to 15 yards on 17 runs and 6 yards on 1 completion and never converted a first down. Cameron Mayberry had 6.5 tackles; McDoanld had 5.5 tackles; Ty Smith and D.J. Peckham each had 3 tackles; Brandon Berry and Kaid Brock and 2 tackles; Holcomb, Habiger, and Charles Citizen Jr. each had a tackle. Brandon Berry had a fumble recovery late in the fourth quarter.

Coach Kevin Cook was pleased with the win but knows there is room for improvement. "We've been really relying on our defense to carry us until the offense can find its rhythm the last couple games. We would make it a lot easier on ourselves if we were more consistent on offense and special teams at the beginning of games," he said. "Once we got rolling, I thought our offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage. The long touchdown drive late in the game really sucked the life out of Berryhill's chances.

The Fifth Grade Golden Eagles will travel to Tulsa to take on North Mabee next Saturday at 2:00.

Stillwater 7th Grade

The 7th Grade Golden Eagles improved to 5-0 Saturday, doubling up Sand Springs 36-18. QB Tyler Holcomb Scored twice from short yardage on sneaks and threw a 19 yard TD to TB Cameron Echols. Echols also threw a 45-yard TD pass to WR Darian Williams. The offensive line seems to get a little better each week and will benefit the team, as they get deeper into the schedule.

Tyler Johnston and Garrett McBroom led the Eagles defense with 6 tackles each, and 1 QB sack by McBroom. Lucas Secrest recovered a fumble deep in the Sand Springs backfield in the third quarter stopping their drive in Eagle territory. “Team” was again the story for this 7th grade squad as many players had multiple tackles.

Owasso (Black) contained Jordan Brown for only 45 yards followed by Gannon Reese 22 yards, Zach Bryant 10 yards. Defensively the it took multiple Eagles to make stops.

Stillwater 7th Grade
By Kevin Knight  (10/6/07)

It was definitely a Black day when the SYFA 7TH grade Golden Eagles went to Jenks to play football.  There unbeaten record was marred in their first loss 44-3 against a very fast and talented Jenks team.

Defensively the stops were not as prevalent as in previous games.  Garrett McBroom still posted 6 tackles to lead the defense & Tyler Johnson added 4 but the speed of the running backs and appropriate blocks thrown caused Jenks to run away with the game.  Special teams had difficulty also as Jenks was able to kick and cover well not allowing the Eagles have good field position.

Offensively the coaches tried eight different backs to break things open but no gain by any of these boys was more than 5 yards as the Jenks Black defense swarmed our runners and smothered all holes.  A few passes were attempted the longest being caught by Darian Williams for 36 yards thrown by halfback Cameron Echols.  This play gave the lone opportunity for a score with a field goal made by Echols.

The theme this week is regroup and hard work to prepare for the home contest against Owasso White at 6:30 on Saturday.

Stillwater 6th Grade
By Dave Higgins  (10/6/07)

Offensive creativity and a blend of diverse plays by the Golden Eagles made for a fun and very close home match against Jenks Titanium.
In the first half Jenks ran the ball on every play using up the first 5 minutes of the playing clock to successfully go up 0-7. The Golden Eagles only offensive possession in the first half was short-lived by the time running out.

The second half was sparked by key plays that put the Golden Eagles back in the match. A 35 yd pass from Jon Littell to King Williams– on the stride – allowed King to speed into the end zone untouched. With a perfect long-snap and hold, Kenneth Northern split the uprights for a 2 pt conversion; putting the Golden Eagles up 8-7. Other offensive plays that contributed to the 122 yd total were; a “hook & ladder” to the left for a 14yd gain by Tanner Swick, Jon Littell’s sweep to the right for 20 yds and 15 yd gain on the first play by King Williams.

6 defensive penalties for 30 yds plagued the Golden Eagles; however it didn’t damper the flash in which Brett Budke pounded the Jenks QB in the backfield marking their only sack for the day. KJ Shaw led the Eagles with 5 tackles while Troy Driskel, Michael Higgins, Preston Johnston, Weston Crane & Jon Littell all had 3 tackles.
In the end, an untimely penalty on 4th down kept the Eagles offense from the keeping ball possession forcing to hand the ball over – by downs – to their opponent. The last possession by Jenks allowed them to run the clock out and take a 8 – 14 win.

Stillwater 5th Grade
By Penny Mayberry  (10/6/07)

The fifth grade Golden Eagles improved to 6-0 by defeating the North Mabee Mustangs by a score of 21 – 7.

The Eagles started the game with a strong scoring drive which they converted four first down plays. QB Trey Holcomb connects with Marlon McDonald on a 25 yard pass reception where the Eagles had a first down and goal from the ten yard line. On the first three plays from scrimmage the Eagles fell short with two carries and an incomplete pass, but on fourth down McDonald falls short of the goal line by a foot on a 9 yard carry. On their first offensive play, the Mustangs throw a lateral pass out of the end zone for a 2 point safety. On the very next play from kick off, Brooks Zimmerman finds his blockers and runs 42 yards to hit pay dirt to go up 8 – 0.

The Eagles hold strong on defense on North Mabee’s next offensive procession when Jace Hagiber recovers a lateral pass. Stillwater gives the ball back to North Mabee on a fumble two plays later. The Mustangs then run a reverse and catch the Eagles off guard to score on a 70 yard TD run. Stillwater counters with another touchdown on special teams when Kaid Brock runs right up the middle for a 70 yard kick-off touchdown return. Cameron Mayberry runs 3 yards for the PAT to go up 15-7 at halftime.

Stillwater scores again in the fourth quarter when the Mustangs give up the ball on their own 12 yard line by the Eagles swarming defensive pressure. Tailback Ty Smith runs the ball on two carries to the 2 yard line and Mayberry scores on a 2 yard dive up the middle. Charles Citizen Jr. attempts a kicking 2 point PAT but the ball is wide left to make the final score 21 to 7. Mayberry had 28 yards on 5 carries; Ty Smith had 17 yards on 6 carries; McDonald had 21 yards on 5 carries, 25 yards on 1 pass; Holcomb was 1 for 2 passing; Zimmerman had 20 yards on 3 carries. The Eagles started the game on their own 18 yard line.  Jenks’ tough defensive front managed to shut down Stillwater on their first offensive possession from their own 25 yard line.  The Trojans managed to set up a first and goal from the Stillwater 10 on tough running up the middle before linebacker Kaid Brock managed to shut down the Trojans at the 2 yard line on a fourth down pass.  The Trojan defensive front shut down the Stillwater offense, starting deep in its own territory, until fourth down when tailback Ty Smith busted loose on a 95 yard sweep.  Smith added the PAT to make the score 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.  On the ensuing kickoff, Cameron Mayberry recovered Brandon Berry's on-side kick to give possession back to the Golden Eagles, but penalties and turnovers managed to haunt the Stillwater offense throughout the second quarter and the Eagles settled for a 7-0 halftime lead.
